VENUE, TRAVEL & ACCOMODATION

We are delighted to confirm that the BIO26-South Africa Congress will be held at the iconic 1820 Settlers Monument in Makhanda. This historic venue offers a commanding view of the city and is a fitting setting for our congress.

Makhanda is situated in the scenic Eastern Cape province of South Africa. For delegates traveling by air, the most convenient entry point is Chief Dawid Stuurman Airport (PLZ), which offers daily flights from major cities.

Accommodation

Rhodes University will be offering a bed and breakfast accommodation package to congress delegates in their halls of residence on Campus.

Accommodation is a single room with shared bathroom facilities for R600 per person per night

There are numerous Bed and Breakfast and Guest House establishments offering accommodation for all budgets

Service Delivery Challenges in Makhanda

We acknowledge that Makhanda has experienced a longstanding lack of service delivery and this remains an ongoing problem for the Makhanda community. The hospitality industry has responded by implementing robust measures to mitigate the impact of water outages and load shedding.

The LOC wishes to reassure prospective conference attendees that every effort is being made to ensure the smooth running of the BIO26 conference.

• The conference venue has backup power and an off grid water supply
• The Rhodes University campus and accommodation is powered by generators and has protocols in place to mitigate water outages in the residence accommodation.
